Aisha Jumwa Hosts James Orengo in Malindi After Quitting UDA
MALINDI, Kenya — Former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has hosted Siaya County Governor James Orengo at her Kakuyuni residence in Malindi, Kilifi County, just a day after officially resigning from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
The high-profile meeting signals a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election, particularly in the Coast region.
Jumwa, who previously served as Malindi MP and Kilifi Woman Representative, confirmed her departure from the ruling party following months of reflection, prayer, and consultations with her constituents.
Speaking after hosting Governor Orengo, Jumwa declared that her exit from UDA is final and ruled out any possibility of rejoining the party.

Emphasizing her ongoing bid for the Kilifi County gubernatorial seat, she stated that she is actively consulting her supporters across Kilifi and Kenya before making her next formal political declaration.
“After deep reflection, heartfelt prayer, and countless consultations with the people I serve, I have made one of the most difficult decisions of my political life,” Jumwa noted during her announcement.
For his part, Siaya Governor James Orengo warmly welcomed Jumwa’s move and invited her to align with the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Orengo urged the former Cabinet Secretary to join forces with the opposition movement to unite voters and challenge President Ruto’s administration through the ballot in 2027.
The political encounter highlights shifting alliances as key political figures reposition themselves across the country ahead of the next election cycle.
Jumwa’s departure poses a notable shift in the Coast region’s political landscape, where she had been one of the key UDA stalwarts since 2022.
