Gachagua Fires Back at Duale Over ‘Hyena’ Remarks, Vows 2027 Election Revenge

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a fiery response to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale following controversial, viral remarks made in North Eastern Kenya that allegedly targeted the Kikuyu community.

Speaking during a meet-the-people tour in Embu County, Gachagua directed his anger beyond Duale, directly accusing President William Ruto of using his Cabinet Secretary to politically profile and attack the Mount Kenya region.

Duale’s comments, made during an event in Mandera County, triggered nationwide condemnation after he allegedly made comparisons likening members of the Kikuyu community to “hyenas”.

While Duale maintained his statements were taken out of context to advance a misleading narrative, the video drew swift rebuke from leaders across the political spectrum.

Unmoved by Duale’s defense, Gachagua insisted that the Health CS was merely acting as a mouthpiece for the Head of State. He claimed the rhetoric forms part of a calculated strategy by the current administration to marginalize the region’s voting block.

“It is President William Ruto who is targeting the Kikuyu community using Duale,” Gachagua told the crowds in Embu. “They are calling our people hyenas, but those same people will demonstrate their power at the ballot.”

Gachagua rallied the region, pledging to mobilize the voting base that had been disparaged and ensure President Ruto is defeated in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

He warned the ruling administration that the community being insulted would “eat them politically” come election day.

The escalating exchange highlights deepening political rifts and growing campaign tensions, as both sides begin early mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 contest.
