KISUMU — Dramatic scenes unfolded in Kisumu on April 25, 2026, as Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino received a hero’s welcome ahead of the much-anticipated Linda Mwanainchi rally.
In a video that has since gone viral, the outspoken legislator is seen being lifted onto the shoulders of enthusiastic supporters who escorted him through cheering crowds toward the rally grounds.
The reception comes just days after political tension gripped the lakeside city, with leaders allied to a rival faction warning Owino and his team against holding the event.
Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi had earlier maintained that Kisumu is a “two-term region,” insisting that residents are more focused on development than political rallies. His remarks sparked debate and heightened anticipation around the planned gathering.

However, scenes captured in the circulating video tell a different story. Large crowds lined the streets, chanting slogans and waving in excitement as Owino made his way into the city.
Supporters appeared energized, with many expressing confidence in the Linda Mwanainchi initiative, which has been gaining traction across different regions.
Political analysts say the reception signals shifting dynamics within Kisumu’s political landscape, traditionally considered a stronghold of established political alignments.
Owino’s growing influence among the youth and grassroots supporters appears to be reshaping conversations ahead of future political contests.
Despite the celebratory mood, underlying tensions remain, with rival factions holding firm to their positions. Security presence was reportedly heightened in key areas to prevent possible clashes as the rally approaches.
As the Linda Mwanainchi team prepares to address residents, all eyes remain on Kisumu to see whether the movement will sustain its momentum or face resistance from opposing political forces in the region.
