Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku Forced to Flee Mbeere After Hostile Reception
MBEERE, KENYA — Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku was on Wednesday forced to cut short his address and beat a hasty retreat after an agitated crowd in Mbeere heckled him during a public gathering.
In a video that rapidly went viral across social media platforms, the Cabinet Secretary is seen standing atop his vehicle, appearing visibly overwhelmed as an angry crowd shouted him down.
The incident erupted after CS Ruku attempted to sell a controversial political proposal suggesting the political division of the Mount Kenya region.
The atmosphere turned hostile within minutes of his arrival. Young residents and local voters swarmed his motorcade, waving hand gestures depicting a “one-term” limit and breaking out into loud chants demanding his immediate departure.
Despite efforts by his security detail and local aides to restore order, the relentless chanting of “Ruku Must Go” completely drowned out the Cabinet Secretary’s speech.
Facing an increasingly charged audience, CS Ruku watched helplessly before signaling his driver to pull away, effectively ending the event prematurely.
