A fresh political storm is brewing after Samson Cherargei publicly dismissed images circulating from Kisumu’s “Linda Mwanainchi” rally, escalating tensions within Kenya’s shifting political landscape.
The UDA Party Senator for Nandi County has strongly criticized the photos shared by Edwin Sifuna and his allies, claiming they are artificially generated and do not reflect the actual turnout at the event.
In a firm statement, Cherargei argued that the visuals being used online were misleading and part of a broader attempt to exaggerate support for the initiative.
Cherargei maintained that political influence in the Nyanza region remains firmly under Oburu Odinga, whom he described as the undisputed Luo kingpin and a central figure in shaping the region’s direction.

According to the senator, any parallel political mobilization efforts lack the grassroots backing necessary to alter the region’s long-standing political alignment.
“The pictures you see being shared by the Linda Mwanainchi team are AI-generated,” Cherargei stated. “Kisumu is a ‘Tutam’ zone, and such images will not translate into votes.”
He further downplayed the significance of the rally, suggesting that those who attended were largely present for leisure rather than political engagement.
The remarks come at a time of heightened political activity in Kisumu and the broader Nyanza region, where rival factions are seeking to assert dominance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Cherargei expressed confidence that the region is gradually shifting its support toward President William Ruto, predicting a strong backing for his re-election bid.
However, supporters of Sifuna and the Linda Mwanainchi movement have pushed back against the claims, defending the authenticity of the rally images and insisting they reflect genuine public support.
The dispute underscores deepening divisions and intensifying competition as Kenya’s political landscape continues to evolve.
