Siaya County Governor James Orengo is facing growing political pressure just days after his bold declaration that President William Ruto will serve only one term.
Orengo made the remarks while attending the funeral of the late Kirinyaga County Senator, where he asserted that the Nyanza region would not support Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election.
During his speech, Orengo criticized Ruto’s administration over what he termed as unfulfilled promises to the region, as well as alleged failure to honor commitments made to ODM supporters and its leadership.
He further vowed to mobilize opposition against the President, signaling early political realignments ahead of the 2027 polls.

However, Orengo’s sentiments have sparked backlash within his own county. Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi has openly criticized the governor, urging Siaya residents to vote him out in the next election cycle.
In a video circulating online, Atandi accused Orengo of misleading Raila Odinga into working with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, a political move he claims did not yield the expected results in the 2022 elections.
Atandi further alleged that Orengo is once again aligning with Uhuru in a bid to block Ruto’s second term, a strategy he described as repetitive and ineffective.
He argued that such political maneuvers have continued to disadvantage the region instead of advancing its interests.
The MP also took aim at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, vowing to push for his removal from the ODM party.
According to Atandi, Sifuna has failed to add value to the party, especially following perceived cooperation with the current administration.
The unfolding rift highlights deepening divisions within ODM, raising questions about unity and strategy as the country gradually shifts focus to the 2027 elections.
