The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against its Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, marking a significant escalation of internal tensions within the party.
In a formal show-cause letter dated April 2, 2026, and signed by ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Sifuna has been given four days to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him over allegations of gross misconduct.
The party accuses the Nairobi Senator of repeatedly contravening party resolutions and undermining its authority.
According to the letter, Sifuna is alleged to have issued public statements that contradict official party positions, failed to attend key meetings, and participated in political initiatives deemed inconsistent with ODM’s agenda.

Among the cited instances is his appearance on Citizen TV’s “The Explainer” in July 2025, where he reportedly declared the ODM–UDA Memorandum of Understanding “dead,” a statement the party says created confusion.
ODM has also faulted Sifuna for his involvement in the “Linda Mwananchi Initiative,” which it claims was undertaken without approval from the party’s Central Committee and undermined unity and cohesion.
The party further accuses Sifuna of skipping crucial meetings, including a Central Committee session held on January 12, 2026, and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings on February 11 and March 4, 2026.
Sifuna is now required to submit a written response by April 8 and appear before a disciplinary panel on April 10. ODM warned that failure to respond within the stipulated timeline could result in further action without consultation.
Despite the charges, the party emphasized that the process will adhere to its constitution, guaranteeing Sifuna a fair hearing as the matter unfolds.
