“They Want to Finish Me”: Former DP Gachagua Alleges Assassination Plot Ahead of Protests
NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked a storm after posting a chilling revelation on his social media platforms, claiming there is an active plot against his life.
The alarming statement comes on the eve of planned youth-led protests scheduled for June 25, 2026, aimed at honoring victims of previous finance bill demonstrations.
According to Gachagua, a state-sponsored “killer squad” has tracking operations currently active in Nyeri County, specifically targeting him and local businesses.
In his social media address, Gachagua alleged that a rogue police unit consisting of 15 officers—which he identified under the code name “Nairobi Sierra”—arrived in the Gatura area near Karatina on Wednesday evening.

“Since I was targeted for assassination then by this killer squad in church, I am apprehensive,” Gachagua wrote. He accused top security officials, including Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Lagat, of instructing the unit to “complete the job they failed to do” during a previous altercation in January at an Othaya church.
Beyond personal threats, the former Deputy President claimed the squad’s immediate objective includes orchestrating attacks on businesses in Karatina town to cause chaos, before a deployment of the General Service Unit (GSU) moves in under the guise of restoring order.
Gachagua warned that the squad is being used to crack down on dissenting voices opposed to the current administration.
Despite the alleged gravity of the situation, he concluded his statement on a resilient note, stating, “In whatever situation, God is in control.”
Security organs and government spokespersons have yet to issue an official response to these severe allegations. Security remains tightly heightened across major towns ahead of the anticipated June 25 demonstrations.
