Airtel Kenya Announces Service Disruption Affecting M-PESA Purchases
NAIROBI, KENYA – Airtel Networks Kenya has officially announced a service disruption affecting its customers who purchase airtime and data bundles using Safaricom’s mobile money platform, M-PESA.
According to an official customer notice released by the telecommunications company, users are currently experiencing intermittent delays in the allocation of both airtime and data bundles when attempting to buy them via the third-party M-PESA platform.
Joint Efforts to Resolve the Glitch
The service provider acknowledged the inconvenience this has caused its user base and assured them that a resolution is underway. Airtel stated that its technical teams are actively following up with the M-PESA team to fully resolve the system integration issue at the earliest opportunity.
Alternative Options for Customers
To cushion its customers against the ongoing transaction delays and ensure seamless connectivity, Airtel Networks Kenya has urged subscribers to utilize its in-house mobile money ecosystem, Airtel Money, which remains completely unaffected.
“In the meantime, AIRTEL MONEY option is available,” the company highlighted in its advisory notice.
To use this alternative, customers can easily complete their purchases through two primary self-service channels:
- USSD Code: By simply dialing *334# directly on their Airtel mobile lines.
- Mobile Application: By navigating through the official My Airtel App.
Once accessed, users can proceed to select the airtime or bundle option, input their preferred bundle type or airtime amount, and complete the payment by entering their secure transaction PIN.
While a definitive timeline for full M-PESA purchase restoration has not been specified, Airtel has committed to providing a quick resolution. Users are advised to rely on Airtel Money for instant top-ups in the interim.
