Tension Soars in Nandi Hills as Youths Block Roads Ahead of High-Profile CS Visit
NANDI HILLS, Kenya — High tension gripped Nandi Hills Town earlier today after groups of disgruntled youths barricaded major access roads ahead of an expected official visit by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho.
The two Cabinet Secretaries are scheduled to attend a public function hosted by Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Bernard Kitur later this afternoon. However, early disruptions have thrown preparations into uncertainty as friction continues to build across the area.
Protesters mounted makeshift blockades along key transport routes leading into Nandi Hills Town, disrupting local traffic and normal business operations.
Demonstrators carried placards inscribed with bold anti-incumbent slogans—most notably branding local representatives “one term” leaders—while demanding strict public accountability and transparency regarding regional development projects.

Eyewitnesses reported that the youth chanted slogans emphasizing that local constituencies will no longer tolerate unfulfilled political promises. The agitation underscores rising civic restless and heightened political friction in the region.
Security agencies have deployed heavily along key thoroughfares to manage the situation and clear traffic. Armed police officers remain on high alert, monitoring crowd movements and engaging community leaders to maintain calm and ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries and local residents.
Despite the increased security footprint, the atmosphere in Nandi Hills Town remains charged. A section of business owners along the main street temporarily shuttered operations as a precaution while awaiting further developments.
Organizers at MP Bernard Kitur’s venue indicated that the public reception is still slated to proceed, even as security officers work around the clock to restore full order before the Cabinet Secretaries arrive.
