Tension High in Kisumu as Rival Political Camps Clash Ahead of Linda Mwananchi Rally
Tension remains high in Kisumu City as rival political groups take control of key locations ahead of the highly anticipated Linda Mwananchi rally. Early Sunday morning, residents allied to Senator Edwin Sifuna gathered at Kaowuor grounds, determined to proceed with the event despite mounting pressure.
Supporters backing President William Ruto’s two-term re-election agenda simultaneously occupied Kondele Highway, creating a charged atmosphere across the city. The parallel mobilization has raised concerns over possible confrontations between the opposing factions.
According to videos circulating online, a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members aligned with Dr. Oburu Odinga have urged Sifuna to cancel the rally. They argue that the event could escalate political tensions and instead recommend focusing mobilization efforts in other regions.

However, Sifuna’s supporters under the Linda Mwananchi initiative have remained defiant. Large crowds were already present at Kaowuor car wash grounds by morning hours, preparing the venue and setting up the podium in readiness for their leaders. Chants and slogans filled the air as attendees vowed to ensure the rally proceeds as planned.
The situation in Kisumu has prompted urgent calls for police intervention. Leaders and residents alike are urging security agencies to act swiftly to maintain law and order and prevent any outbreak of violence. The warning comes amid rising fears that clashes between rival groups could lead to unrest.
Notably, some attendees have issued strong warnings, declaring that they will defend the grounds if necessary. Organizers have also insisted that any individuals suspected of causing disruption will not be allowed access, terming them “persona non grata” at the venue.
As the day unfolds, all eyes remain on Kisumu, with the success of the rally largely dependent on how authorities manage the growing political tension.
