KAKAMEGA, KENYA — A somber mood has engulfed Kholera ward in Matungu, Kakamega County, following the tragic death of a promising Member of County Assembly (MCA) aspirant for the 2027 general elections.
Honorable Malik Mapao was killed in a horrific road accident on the Bungoma-Mumias road, right at the border of Bungoma and Kakamega counties. The incident occurred at around 6:00 PM on Friday evening as Mapao was riding his motorbike home.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports, the aspirant was knocked down by a speeding public service Nissan vehicle just a few meters from his residence. He tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The sudden demise of the young leader has shocked the region, coming just hours after he took to his official Facebook page to post an emotional appeal for votes, urging Kholera residents to support his 2027 bid.
Local residents and several political leaders from western Kenya have since sent messages of condolence to his family, describing Mapao as a vibrant and visionary leader whose potential was cut short. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash as the body was moved to a local morgue.
