The government has unveiled plans to spend KSh 1.03 billion on the renovation of State Houses and State Lodges across the country in the 2026/2027 financial year.
Appearing before the National Assembly’s Administration and Internal Security Committee on Tuesday, February 24, State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito said the funds will facilitate 13 renovation projects aimed at improving and maintaining the physical infrastructure of the official residences.
Metito revealed that several State House properties have suffered years of land encroachment by private developers. However, his office has managed to reclaim 100 acres belonging to the Kakamega State Lodge. He added that similar recovery efforts are ongoing in Eldoret, while Kisumu and Nakuru are next in line.
“Almost all these State Lodges and State Houses had their land encroached. We are reclaiming them one by one,” Metito told the committee chaired by Gabriel Tongoyo.
The comptroller also sought additional budgetary allocations after the State House received KSh 11 billion instead of the proposed KSh 20 billion. By January 2026, expenditure had reached KSh 10.4 billion—KSh 2.7 billion above the approved KSh 7.7 billion for the 2025/2026 financial year.

According to Metito, hosting public holiday celebrations is costly, with each function consuming an average of KSh 123 million to cater for at least 4,500 guests. Expenses cover tents, food, and entertainment.
In the current budget, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi allocated KSh 42.5 million for renovations at Mombasa State House, with an additional KSh 201.1 million proposed next year. Nakuru State House is set to receive KSh 98.7 million, while Kisumu and Kisii have been allocated KSh 30.1 million and KSh 15.4 million respectively.
The renovations form part of William Ruto’s administration’s broader infrastructure maintenance plan for official residences.
