President William Ruto has congratulated Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni following his victory in the recently concluded presidential election, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to strong bilateral relations with its western neighbour.
In a statement released on Sunday, President Ruto described Museveni’s win as a reflection of the will of the Ugandan people and praised him for what he termed as steady leadership in the East African region.
Ruto noted that Kenya and Uganda share deep historical, economic and diplomatic ties that must continue to be strengthened for regional stability and prosperity.
“On behalf of the people and Government of Kenya, I congratulate H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his re election as President of the Republic of Uganda,” Ruto said.
“Kenya looks forward to deepening our cooperation for the benefit of our peoples and the wider East African Community.”
Museveni was declared winner by Uganda’s Electoral Commission after securing a decisive majority of the votes cast.
However, the election has drawn mixed reactions, with opposition groups raising concerns over the credibility of the process, claims that have been strongly denied by Ugandan authorities.
Ruto’s message places Kenya among the first countries in the region to formally recognize Museveni’s victory, signaling continuity in diplomatic relations between Nairobi and Kampala.

Uganda remains one of Kenya’s key trading partners, with strong links in transport, energy, security cooperation and regional integration initiatives.
Political analysts say the congratulatory message underscores Kenya’s preference for stability and engagement in the region, especially at a time when the East African Community is grappling with economic pressures and security challenges.
The message has nevertheless sparked debate online, with critics questioning the timing and tone of the congratulations amid ongoing disputes over the election outcome in Uganda.
Supporters, however, argue that state to state relations must be upheld regardless of domestic political disagreements.
As Museveni begins another term in office, attention now turns to how regional leaders, including President Ruto, will work together to address shared challenges such as trade barriers, infrastructure development and peace and security across East Africa.
