Nairobi – The widow of the late Homa Bay County Senator, Otieno Kajwang’, Rose Otieno, has passed away after a prolonged illness. We have confirmed that the respected academic and former Kenyatta University lecturer died on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
Sources close to the family revealed that Rose had been battling cancer for several years. Though she had gone into remission, her health recently deteriorated, leading to her untimely death.
Rose Otieno was a renowned scholar who previously served as the head of the Kenyatta University Alumni Association. Beyond her academic achievements, she was widely admired for her humility and dedication to education.
Rose captured many hearts when she fondly narrated her love story with the late Senator Kajwang’ during his memorial service in 2014.

She recounted how the two met on a bus ride in Nairobi’s Buruburu Estate, a moment she described as “the beginning of a beautiful and humorous journey.”
“I noticed this tall man with a bright smile, and he asked me to sit next to him. Just five minutes later, the bus broke down,” she once recalled, drawing laughter from the audience as she described Kajwang’s charm and humor.
Despite the deep loss of her husband, Rose remained strong, often speaking about her unwavering love and faith. “I loved my husband, and I still do. I know we’ll meet again in heaven,” she once said.
Rose’s passing has drawn an outpouring of condolences from friends, former students, and political leaders who have praised her as a pillar of strength and grace. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family soon.
