A fresh political storm has erupted within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Oburu Odinga responded sharply to criticism from the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who had earlier branded him a “mediocre” leader.
Speaking in response to remarks made during a parallel National Delegates Conference (NDC) in Nairobi, Sifuna accused Oburu of being part of efforts to destabilize a party he claimed was painstakingly built by the late Raila Odinga. His comments sparked debate within ODM ranks, exposing deepening divisions.
Oburu, however, appeared unfazed. In his response, he expressed surprise that Sifuna would issue such harsh criticism while still seeking to retain his influential position within the party.

He questioned the logic of Sifuna continuing to pursue the Secretary General role, noting that the office ultimately reports to the party leadership he represents.
The veteran politician went further to dismiss Sifuna’s bid to continue serving as ODM Secretary General, suggesting that while he remains free to stay in the party, he should not expect to hold the powerful administrative role.
The exchange highlights growing tensions within ODM as internal power struggles intensify, raising concerns about unity ahead of future political engagements.
