Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has appeared to shift his political stance, distancing himself from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s “one-term” narrative and instead expressing support for President William Ruto.
Kahiga, who had previously been vocal in defending Gachagua following his fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration, now says his priority is development for the people of Nyeri County.
Speaking in a video circulating online, the governor emphasized the need for leaders to focus on tangible results rather than political rhetoric.
According to Kahiga, President Ruto’s commitment to development projects in Nyeri has influenced his decision to continue working closely with the national government.
He cited the allocation of over KSh 500 million towards the upgrading of Mwai Kibaki Referral Hospital in Othaya as a key milestone that will improve healthcare services in the region.

The governor also highlighted ongoing construction work at Ruringu Stadium, noting that the project is progressing well.
He further revealed that President Ruto has pledged to host a national celebration at the stadium in December, a move Kahiga says will elevate Nyeri’s national profile.
Kahiga urged residents of Nyeri to support the President’s development agenda, warning against being distracted by leaders pushing divisive political narratives.
He dismissed the “one-term” slogan associated with Gachagua’s allies, saying such sentiments do not serve the immediate needs of wananchi.
The latest remarks mark a significant shift in Mt Kenya politics, where loyalty lines have recently been tested. Kahiga’s change of tone signals a growing alignment among some regional leaders with President Ruto, despite earlier tensions.
Political analysts say the governor’s stance could influence other leaders in the region, as the focus increasingly shifts toward development ahead of the 2027 general election.
