Mumias East Member of Parliament Honorable Peter Salasya has won praise from Kenyans after making a bold and compassionate move to support his constituents during the Christmas festive season.
The first-term legislator, who recently returned from the United States of America where he had travelled for official duties, shared a video that quickly went viral showing him at his rural home with bundles of sugar from Mumias Sugar Company.
According to Salasya, the sugar is set to be distributed to residents of Mumias East on December 23, 2025, to enable families to celebrate Christmas with dignity and joy.
In the video, the youthful MP is seen personally overseeing preparations, a move that many Kenyans described as a rare show of hands-on leadership and genuine concern for the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Social media platforms were awash with messages praising Salasya for remembering vulnerable families who may struggle to afford basic food items during the festive season.
Many commenters noted that sugar remains an important commodity in many households, especially during celebrations, and described the initiative as timely and thoughtful.

Beyond the festive gesture, Salasya’s leadership record in Mumias East has continued to attract attention. As a first-term MP, he has been credited with pushing development projects aimed at improving access to education and healthcare.
One of his notable achievements is the construction of a multi-storey building at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Shianda Campus, a project that residents have hailed as a major boost to medical training and service delivery in the region.
Residents and political observers alike say Salasya’s actions reflect a leadership style focused on direct impact and visibility. Supporters argue that such initiatives help restore public confidence in elected leaders, especially at a time when many citizens feel neglected.
As the festive season approaches, Salasya’s Christmas gesture has positioned him as a leader keen on sharing celebrations with his people, reinforcing his image as a representative who remains closely connected to the grassroots.
