Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has responded sharply after the government revoked her appointment as a board member of Kenya Shipyards Limited, in a decision that has sparked political debate online.
According to a gazette notice issued by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, Omanga’s appointment was officially revoked on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
The notice stated that the decision was made under the State Corporations Act and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, effectively ending her tenure with immediate effect.
The move comes barely a month after Omanga publicly aligned herself with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), a political outfit associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

She was formally welcomed into the party during a Nairobi event on March 19, where Gachagua praised her integrity and dismissed claims that she could be influenced politically.
Following the revocation, Omanga took to her social media platforms to downplay the decision, expressing surprise at what she described as confusion over her status in the state corporation.
“Apparently I’ve just been officially removed from a board I didn’t even know I was still serving on. Impressive level of coordination. Decisions being made about roles that only exist on paper,” she wrote.
The Kenya Shipyards Limited board, from which she has been removed, operates under the Ministry of Defence and is involved in overseeing maritime industrial development in the country.
In a separate political reflection, Omanga also appeared to criticize President William Ruto, claiming that some of the promises made during his campaign had not been fulfilled and urging supporters to reconsider their expectations.
“I am asking for your forgiveness for thinking that the UDA wheelbarrow was going somewhere, but I was wrong,” she stated.
The developments highlight rising political tensions as realignments continue ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
