Mbooni Girls High School Temporarily Closed Over Suspected Diarrhoea Outbreak
MAKUENI, KENYA – Mbooni Girls High School in Makueni County has been closed temporarily following a suspected outbreak of diarrhoea and stomach-related illnesses among students.
The school administration has directed parents and guardians to pick up their children immediately to allow health officials to assess the situation.
In an official memo dispatched to parents, the school management revealed that several students had complained of stomach discomfort.
The decision to suspend learning was taken as a precautionary measure to guarantee student safety and give public health officers a conducive environment to conduct a thorough medical evaluation.

“Dear Parents/Guardians, we would like to inform you that a number of students have reported stomach-related discomfort. As a precautionary measure, and to allow the Public Health Office to carry out a thorough assessment, we kindly request parents to pick their daughters from school,” the administration stated in the memo.
The school management further assured the public that they are collaborating closely with local health authorities to resolve the issue swiftly, emphasizing that the well-being of the learners remains their topmost priority.
Transport Paralysis Compounds Crisis
The unexpected closure comes at a highly challenging time for families. Parents and students are facing severe travel disruptions due to an ongoing nationwide matatu strike.
Public service vehicle (PSV) operators withdrew their services across major routes in the country to protest high fuel prices, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
While transport operators had initially vowed to sustain the boycott after talks with the government collapsed, breaking reports indicate that matatu owners have officially called off the strike, directing operators to resume services effective immediately.
Despite this relief, the initial transport hitch is expected to delay parents traveling to Makueni to pick up their daughters.
