Kenyans Told Why They Should Vote For Ruto If They Loved Raila Odinga

Nairobi, Kenya — Following the tragic passing of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga during treatment in India, political debate has intensified over the future of the Broad-Based Government established through his historic handshake with President William Ruto.

As supporters across the country weigh whether to remain aligned with the administration or pull back, Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has offered a direct reason for them to rally behind President Ruto ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking on the political legacy of the late opposition leader, Alai argued that Kenyans who loved and supported Raila Odinga should extend that support to President Ruto in recognition of how the Head of State honored the veteran politician.

“Ruto has honoured Raila with a stadium. Imagine, a whole stadium—the Talanta Stadium,” Alai stated. “Aki, do you still oppose Ruto? If you ever loved Raila, then you cannot oppose Ruto. This is wonderful.”

The tribute reference points to the government’s decision to recognize Odinga’s extensive legacy in public service and national development. The handshake between Ruto and Raila had previously stabilized the political landscape, laying the groundwork for cooperative governance between former political rivals.

While Odinga’s passing left a noticeable vacuum within the opposition, political figures within the Broad-Based Government contend that preserving the alliance fulfills his vision for national unity.
