Shock as University Student Killed in Hostels Dispute Over Toilet Duties
The country is in mourning following the tragic death of Brian Wambui, a university student whose body now lies at the PCA Mortuary in Thogoto.
According to preliminary information from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident occurred at the University of Nairobi’s Kikuyu Campus, where Wambui lived with his two roommates. Investigators revealed that the fatal confrontation arose from a disagreement over a seemingly minor issue—who was responsible for washing and flushing the shared toilet.
Witnesses reported that tension between the students had been simmering for some time, but matters escalated on the fateful day. The altercation turned physical, and during the fight, Wambui was stabbed by one of his roommates. Initial accounts suggest that the suspect, also a student at the campus, claimed to have acted in self-defense.
Campus authorities quickly alerted police after the incident, and detectives arrived at the scene to secure the hostel and begin investigations. The suspect is currently in custody, assisting police with inquiries.
Kikuyu Sub-County DCI officers said they are piecing together the events leading to the confrontation, including taking statements from neighbors and fellow students.

University officials have expressed their condolences to the family and assured that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served. The administration has also appealed to students to resolve disputes amicably and seek help through available counseling services instead of resorting to violence.
