Mr. Maurice Ogeta, who served as a close personal assistant and security aide to the late Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader Hon. Raila Odinga, has finally landed a powerful government position months after the death of his longtime boss.
Ogeta came to national attention following reports that he was among the few aides who accompanied Odinga to India, where the veteran opposition leader passed away while seeking medical attention.
Images and videos of a visibly emotional Ogeta during Odinga’s burial in Siaya County, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, moved many Kenyans, with some praising his loyalty and years of dedicated service.
Now, new developments indicate that Ogeta’s years in high-level security and public service have been recognised.
According to information reaching our newsroom, he has been appointed to a senior advisory role within the Mombasa County Government.
In a statement released today, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir confirmed the appointment, noting that it followed the formal establishment of new positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board and was done in line with the law.

“I have today made appointments in the Executive Office of the Governor following the establishment of positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board,” the governor said.
The statement further revealed that Mr. Ogeta has been appointed as the Advisor, Security Affairs in the County Government of Mombasa.
“This appointment is informed by his many years of experience and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels, including his service to our late Founding Party Leader, H.E. Raila Odinga, C.G.H.,” Governor Nassir added.
Political observers say the appointment places Ogeta at the heart of Mombasa County’s security advisory framework, a role expected to involve coordination on security policy, inter-agency collaboration, and strategic advisory duties to the governor’s office.
In the same announcement, Governor Nassir also named Ken Ambani as his Advisor on Creative Arts, saying Ambani’s experience would help revive and grow Mombasa’s creative industry for the benefit of artists, youth, and the wider economy.
Ogeta’s appointment has been widely welcomed by ODM supporters, many of whom view it as a fitting next chapter for a man who stood firmly by Raila Odinga during some of the most defining moments of his political life.
