A fresh political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after diverging signals from key party figures exposed deepening internal divisions.
Speaking during a high-profile burial in Bomet County, Junet Mohammed sought to reassure William Ruto that ODM remains firmly aligned with the government.
Junet declared that the party would honor what he described as a “broad-based arrangement” initiated by the late Raila Odinga, insisting that ODM would support Ruto’s administration heading into the 2027 General Election.
Junet further downplayed the ongoing wrangles within ODM, promising the President that internal dissent would soon be resolved. “Leave everything to me. The noise you are hearing will end,” he said, signaling confidence in stabilizing the party.

However, his remarks come at a time when ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna appears to be charting a different political course.
Sifuna has recently drawn massive crowds through rallies linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement, overshadowing events organized by the rival faction associated with Oburu Odinga and Gladys Wanga.
Political observers note that Sifuna’s growing grassroots appeal is reshaping the internal dynamics of ODM, raising questions about the party’s unity and future direction.
While the Oburu-Wanga faction has struggled to mobilize comparable support, Sifuna’s momentum suggests a shifting power base within the party ranks.
The contrasting messages—Junet’s pledge of loyalty to the government and Sifuna’s apparent alignment with a more populist, opposition-leaning base—highlight a party at a crossroads. Analysts warn that unless reconciled, these differences could widen cracks within ODM ahead of the next election cycle.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on whether ODM can maintain cohesion or if the internal contest for influence will redefine its political identity in the coming months.
