On July 2, 2024. Kenyans took to social media to protest a move by magistrate that imposed 10 million shillings bond to Jonathan Mutua for allegedly stealing goods worth 37 million Kenya shillings from a bar during anti-government protests.
Kenyans wondered why he was getting harsh bond terms and yet some governors were given favourable terms despite syphoning billion of shillings.
The judiciary tried to issue a clarification over the same stating that it was not just 181kg of meat that was stolen but goods worth millions of shillings.
Well, today, through it’s official X account. Judiciary announced that a judge seated in Eldoret revised the bond to 150, 000 shillings.
Justice Wanaenda John issued the rulling after public outcry that had put judiciary on a microscope.
“High Court in Eldoret reduces bail for Jonathan Mutua, man accused of stealing goods worth Sh37 million to Sh150,000 bond or Sh200,000 cash bail, following public outcry over initial Sh10 million bail set by magistrate court.” Read part of the report from Judiciary.
