Siaya County Governor His Excellency James Orengo has strongly fired back at a section of Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leaders who have recently launched attacks against the party’s Secretary General, Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Orengo defended Sifuna, dismissing claims that he is being used by former President Uhuru Kenyatta to cause divisions within the party.
The controversy erupted a few days ago after a faction within ODM accused Sifuna of acting as a mole allegedly sponsored to weaken the party from within.
The claims sparked sharp reactions from party loyalists and intensified internal disagreements at a time when ODM is navigating a delicate political phase.
Speaking during a public address, Governor Orengo termed the attacks on Sifuna as “out of order” and warned party members against engaging in reckless accusations that could undermine unity.

Orengo emphasized that such actions go against the core values of ODM, which were built on democracy, tolerance, and respect for divergent opinions.
The Siaya governor further invoked the legacy and directives of the late ODM leader Honorable Raila Odinga, insisting that Raila had absolute trust in Edwin Sifuna.
According to Orengo, Raila consistently maintained that Sifuna was the official spokesperson of the party and never at any point expressed doubts about his loyalty or integrity.
“At no time did Raila Odinga say that Sifuna was bad for the party,” Orengo stated, adding that those claiming otherwise are misrepresenting Raila’s position for selfish political interests.
Orengo called on ODM leaders and supporters to focus on constructive engagement and internal democracy rather than personal attacks. He urged party members to channel their energy toward strengthening the party and addressing issues affecting Kenyans instead of fueling divisions.
The governor concluded by reminding all political parties, not just ODM, that democracy thrives where differing views are respected, warning that intolerance could easily destroy hard-earned political institutions.
