Interesting Times As Bishop Goes After Ruto, Slams Him For His Policies
NAIROBI, Kenya — While President William Ruto is away in Baku, Azerbaijan, securing bilateral agreements and pitching Kenya’s housing model at the World Urban Forum, trouble is brewing back home. Dissatisfaction with the government’s economic trajectory has reached a boiling point, prompting strong condemnation from the clergy.
In a scathing, widely circulated video address, a prominent Kenyan bishop has heavily criticized President Ruto, accusing his administration of inflicting immense suffering on ordinary citizens.
The cleric’s remarks come at a time when the country is reeling from tense fuel hike protests, which have tragically turned violent and resulted in the deaths of several Kenyans at the hands of armed police officers.
The bishop did not mince his words regarding the administration’s flagship economic policy, mocking the “Bottom-Up” economic transformation agenda.

“Kenyans are suffering because the president promised them a bottom-up economy. Instead, this is being implemented with everything going up,” the bishop lamented.
He pointed out that rather than uplifting those at the bottom of the economic pyramid, the policy has only driven up the cost of fuel and essential commodities, making life unbearable for ordinary Wananchi.
Expressing deep concern over the escalating public anger and the heavy-handed police response, the cleric urged the President to pause the international public relations campaigns and focus on the crisis at home.
He called on President Ruto to show compassion, re-evaluate his fiscal policies, and take immediate steps to alleviate the financial burden on the suffering populace.
With tensions remaining high and citizens demanding relief from the biting inflation, the bishop’s bold sermon reflects a growing rift between the state and religious leaders, signaling interesting, yet highly volatile times ahead for Kenya’s political landscape.
