Homa Bay Politics Hit Fever Pitch as Millie Odhiambo Takes on Governor Gladys Wanga
HOMA BAY, Kenya — The political landscape in Homa Bay County has taken a dramatic and chaotic turn as Suba North Member of Parliament, Honorable Millie Odhiambo, launched a blistering attack against Governor Gladys Wanga, accusing her of administrative “identity theft” regarding development projects.
In a move that has sent shockwaves through the ODM party stronghold, the vocal lawmaker issued a stern warning to the Governor, demanding she cease claiming credit for projects funded by the National Government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The Bone of Contention
Speaking to a charged gathering in her constituency, Odhiambo expressed her fury over what she termed as the “hijacking” of achievements.

The Suba North legislator clarified that while the county government has its mandate, it should not masquerade national initiatives or NG-CDF (National Government Constituencies Development Fund) work as its own.
“NGOs and national government projects should not be presented as county work in Homa Bay. Let everyone carry their own cross and showcase their specific achievements,” Odhiambo stated.
A Breaking Point
The rivalry between the two powerful women leaders, which has simmered beneath the surface for years, appears to have reached a point of no return. Odhiambo revealed that she has reached her “breaking point” after enduring years of systemic provocation.
Key issues cited by the MP include:
- Coordinated Online Attacks: Allegations that Governor Wanga’s communication team has been targeting Odhiambo’s reputation.
- Project Misattribution: Presenting multi-million shilling national projects as county successes.
- Political Sabotage: Efforts to undermine her standing within the Suba North constituency.
Political Implications
The escalating war of words threatens to split the county’s leadership at a time when unity is vital for service delivery. While Governor Wanga’s office has yet to issue an official rebuttal, the atmosphere in Homa Bay remains tense. For Millie Odhiambo, the gloves are officially off: “I have reached a breaking point where I must defend my reputation and my political stand.”
As the 2027 political cycle approaches, this fallout marks a significant shift in the Nyanza region’s power dynamics, leaving residents to wonder if the “chaotic” rivalry will derail the very development projects both leaders claim to champion.
