ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has launched a fierce political onslaught against President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accusing the ruling party of orchestrating a calculated plan to weaken the Orange Democratic Movement following the death of its longtime leader, Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Lugari at the home of veteran politician the late Cyrus Jirongo, Wanga claimed that UDA has rolled out a silent but aggressive strategy aimed at infiltrating ODM strongholds under the guise of development.
According to the Homa Bay Governor, the ruling party has allegedly appointed individuals to supervise development projects in ODM-dominated regions, a move she says is meant to win political loyalty ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Wanga warned that ODM is fully aware of what she termed as “political deception,” insisting that development should not be weaponized to dismantle opposition parties.

She accused UDA of taking advantage of ODM’s transition period following Raila’s death, describing the move as disrespectful and dangerous to Kenya’s democratic space.
“The ODM party is mourning, reorganizing, and rebuilding itself. We did not invite external forces to come and destabilize us using development as bait,” Wanga told mourners, drawing loud applause from party supporters.
She further alleged that there are deliberate efforts to divide ODM leaders by dangling government appointments and promises, stating that the party will not be bullied into submission.
Wanga emphasized that ODM remains strong, united, and firmly rooted in its support base despite the political pressure.
On the issue of President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, Wanga poured cold water on claims that ODM has already made up its mind. She maintained that any engagement with the Kenya Kwanza administration will only occur after serious negotiations and internal consultations.
Her remarks come at a time when UDA is intensifying its presence in opposition zones, signaling what could be a bruising political contest.
As the 2027 race begins to take shape, Wanga’s warning sets the stage for a high-stakes battle over the soul of ODM and the future of opposition politics in Kenya.
