Gachagua Demands Judicial Intervention Following Junet Mohamed’s Impeachment Bribery Admission
MERU, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued urgent demands to the appellate bench handling his impeachment case, citing recent public admissions by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed that lawmakers were paid to vote out the former DP.
Addressing a highly charged political rally in Meru, Gachagua urged the judges to take judicial notice of the revelation, maintaining that his October 2024 ouster was driven purely by political machinations rather than the rule of law.
“The truth has finally come to light from the very mouths of those who orchestrated this process. The judiciary must look at these fresh admissions and see that my removal was a political execution funded by public resources, not a constitutional process,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua’s fresh demands come in the wake of explosive remarks made by Junet Mohamed during a public rally in Malava, Kakamega County.

In his speech, the National Assembly Minority Leader openly confessed that money changed hands in Parliament during the impeachment vote, alleging that specific leaders acted as accounting officers to distribute funds to MPs.
Junet’s candid admission sent shockwaves across the political landscape, confirming long-standing allegations that the impeachment process lacked integrity and was fueled by financial inducements.
Gachagua, who has challenged the constitutionality of his removal at the Court of Appeal following a High Court ruling, argued that the admission severely undermines the legitimacy of the entire legislative process.
He called on the judicial panel to re-evaluate the grounds of his appeal, asserting that an impeachment born out of widespread bribery cannot stand under Kenya’s legal framework.
As public discourse intensifies, legal experts predict that Junet’s confession could significantly impact Gachagua’s ongoing appellate battle.
