Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua have unveiled an ambitious plan to seize control of Nairobi politics, including the governor’s office, the senate, MPs, and ward representatives as part of his strategy for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving celebration in Kariobangi North on November 30, 2025, Gachagua declared that his party and Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement have formed a political alliance.
In accordance with this agreement, DCP will present candidates for Nairobi’s governor, senate, and women’s representative positions.

Together, the two parties seek to control 75 of Nairobi’s 85 ward seats and 16 of the city’s 17 parliamentary seats.Gachagua pointed out the DCP’s recent by-election victories as evidence of the party’s progress.
He also noted that the DCP’s victory in three out of five contested seats, including the Kariobangi North ward, demonstrated the party’s readiness to take on Nairobi’s current political establishment.
Additionally, he also argued that DCP lacks support and is too new in the political landscape despite the party’s May 2025 launch.
Its rapid growth and recent victories demonstrate its solid foundation.Adding to its political plan for the upcoming 2027 general elections, DCP has launched a significant youth mobilization program in Nairobi.
By 2027, the party’s Youth League intended to organize at least three million young voters, open youth offices in each of the 47 counties, and recruit and train over 300 young political candidates.
In an effort to boost youth involvement and transform Kenya’s leadership, the party is also thinking about waiving nomination fees for young candidates.
