Defiant Sifuna Vows to Press On After ODM Secretary General Ouster and Senate Shake-Up
TAITA TAVETA, KENYA — Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that he remains undeterred by recent political setbacks following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, maintaining that the loss of key leadership positions has not diminished his resolve.
Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi movement tour in Mwatate Town, Taita Taveta County, on Saturday, a defiant Sifuna reflected on the drastic changes that have reshaped his political career in recent months.
He asserted that being stripped of influential roles has not taken away his ability to think, lead, or champion the interests of everyday Kenyans.
“They Haven’t Taken Away My Mind”
Addressing a charged crowd of supporters, Sifuna directly addressed his recent ouster from the helm of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as Secretary General, as well as his removal from parliamentary leadership.
“All the big positions that Baba [Raila Odinga] had given me have been taken away. But I want to ask them: Do you still see that I have my ears? Do I still have my head? Do I still have my legs? Have they taken away my mind?” Sifuna posed to the cheering crowd.

The vocal Nairobi legislator also hinted at higher political ambitions following his removal as ODM Secretary General, noting that the youth have suggested a title upgrade. “The youth have told me to stop being called SG; they want to give me another title called H.E. [His Excellency],” he stated.
Senate Leadership Shake-Up Sparks Controversy
Sifuna’s remarks come just days after he was stripped of his position as the Senate Deputy Minority Whip, a casualty of a broader and highly contentious opposition leadership shake-up in the Senate.
The restructuring has ignited fierce criticism within the opposition ranks. Senators aligned with the Linda Mwananchi faction have strongly condemned Sifuna’s removal, alleging that the purge was orchestrated directly from State House and executed through an unlawful process.
The political fallout has already drawn attention from rival camps. Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-Kenya) leader Eugene Wamalwa has reportedly invited Sifuna to join his party following the senator’s unceremonious removal from the ODM leadership.
Linda Mwananchi Regroups in Coast Region
The Linda Mwananchi team, led by Suba South MP and spokesperson Caroli Omondi, used the Coast region tour to consolidate its political base. According to the itinerary released by Omondi, the high-stakes tour kicked off in Mwatate before proceeding to Wundanyi and concluding with a major rally in Voi.
Beyond national politics, the faction used the platform to shape local dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Linda Mwananchi brigade urged Taita Taveta residents to back Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako in his upcoming bid to unseat the incumbent Taita Taveta Governor, Andrew Mwadime.
Despite losing institutional power within the traditional opposition framework, Sifuna and his allies are signaling that they are far from finished, setting the stage for a prolonged battle for the soul of the opposition.
