Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale has opened up about the privileges and perks he lost following his removal as Senate Majority Whip, a decision that sparked debate within the political arena.
Khalwale was ousted a few days ago and replaced by Bungoma Senator David Wakoli, a reshuffle that caught many Kenyans by surprise and fueled speculation over the real reasons behind the move.
Speaking during an interview on a local radio station, Khalwale detailed the “prestigious benefits” that came with the whip position—benefits he no longer enjoys after being relieved of his duties.
According to him, the role was accompanied by a fully equipped support team meant to facilitate smooth execution of his parliamentary responsibilities.

“The position came with several packages,” Khalwale explained. “I had a designated driver, a personal assistant, a researcher, and an office messenger. All these were part of the office I was occupying, and they were taken away immediately after my removal.”
Khalwale’s exit from the influential seat has been linked to allegations that he covertly campaigned for United Opposition candidate Seth Panyako during the Malava Constituency by-election.
The by-election, which was closely contested, saw UDA’s David Ndakwa clinch victory by a slim margin—an outcome that stirred conversations within the ruling party regarding internal loyalty and discipline.
Political analysts argue that Khalwale’s removal signals a tightening grip within the United Democratic Alliance leadership ahead of the 2027 general election. Others view it as a warning shot to leaders perceived as straying from the party’s official line.
Despite the setback, Khalwale maintained a calm tone, insisting he remains committed to serving Kakamega residents. “Positions come and go, but leadership is about service,” he said, hinting that the political storm surrounding him is far from over.
