Embakasi East Member of Parliament Honorable Babu Owino has been advised to reconsider his political strategy ahead of the 2027 general election, with calls emerging for him to abandon his gubernatorial ambitions and instead team up with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja as a running mate.
Owino, who is serving his second term in Parliament, has in recent months intensified campaigns aimed at unseating Governor Sakaja. However, his bid has reportedly faced resistance from sections of his own party, the Orange Democratic Party (ODM), which sponsored him to Parliament.
Some ODM insiders have urged the outspoken legislator to shelve his ambitions, arguing that the political environment within Nairobi may not be favorable for his governorship bid at this time.

The latest advice came from Homabay Town MP Honorable Peter Kaluma, who publicly suggested that Owino should back Sakaja in 2027 and bide his time until 2032. According to Kaluma, Owino still enjoys an age advantage and would benefit from strategic patience rather than rushing into a potentially divisive contest.
In a strongly worded statement shared online, Kaluma warned Owino against trusting certain political alliances, claiming that influential forces had already settled on another candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
He urged Owino to urgently seek out Sakaja and negotiate a deputy governor position as a way of remaining politically relevant while gaining executive experience.
Kaluma’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions across the political divide. Owino’s supporters argue that he has the grassroots support and political clout to mount a serious challenge for the governorship, while critics insist that aligning with Sakaja could stabilize his career amid growing resistance.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the debate underscores the shifting alliances and intense maneuvering within Nairobi politics, with Babu Owino’s next move likely to shape his political future for years to come.
