Embakasi East Member of Parliament Honorable Babu Owino has finally addressed growing speculation that he plans to abandon his Nairobi gubernatorial ambitions for the Kisumu County governor’s seat. Speaking in a video that has since gone viral, Owino dismissed the claims as baseless rumors meant to mislead the public.
For weeks, sections of online publications and social media users have alleged that the outspoken legislator was eyeing the Kisumu governor’s position following reports that incumbent Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o is set to retire after completing his term.

The rumors further suggested that Owino was reconsidering Nairobi due to Governor Johnson Sakaja’s expected bid for a second term in 2027.
However, Owino categorically denied the claims, stating that he has no intention of contesting in Kisumu County. He emphasized that Nairobi remains his political focus and reaffirmed his plans to vie for the Nairobi County governor’s seat in the next general election.
The Embakasi East MP urged Kenyans to ignore what he termed as propaganda and unnecessary political gossip.
He maintained that his development agenda for Nairobi is solid and unstoppable, adding that residents should prepare for transformative leadership.
“I am running for Nairobi, and I will win in 2027,” Owino declared confidently, calling on his supporters to remain focused on development rather than distractions fueled by rumors.
