Nairobi, Kenya — A fresh war of words has erupted between Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Samburu Governor Jonathan Lelelit following a dramatic altercation at the Senate premises earlier this week.
The incident, which has since gone viral, saw Governor Lelelit engaged in a physical confrontation with individuals at the Senate grounds after reportedly resisting efforts by senators to usher him into the building.
The governor later claimed that Sifuna and his allies attempted to assault him under the guise of enforcing accountability.
Speaking during an interview on KTN News, Governor Lelelit escalated the standoff by daring Sifuna to a physical fight, further fueling public debate around the incident.

However, Sifuna has dismissed the governor’s remarks, urging a shift from confrontation to accountability.
In a video response seen by our newsroom, the Nairobi Senator emphasized that his primary focus remains on addressing issues affecting Kenyans, not engaging in personal disputes.
“I am focused on matters that concern the people,” Sifuna stated. “The governor should stop calling for fights and instead honor Senate summons to explain the alleged loss of public resources.”
Sifuna reiterated that oversight of county governments is a constitutional duty of the Senate, and leaders must be prepared to account for how public funds are utilized. He maintained that the theatrics witnessed at the Senate would not distract him from executing his mandate.
At the same time, the outspoken senator issued a subtle warning, noting that while he prefers dialogue, he is not incapable of defending himself if provoked.
The unfolding standoff highlights rising tensions between county leadership and the Senate, with Kenyans now keenly watching whether Governor Lelelit will comply with summons or continue his defiant stance.
