Democracy For Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Hon. Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah has issued a strongly worded statement following an alleged violent attack on the entourage of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in Kabuchai, Bungoma County.
The governor had toured Chwele Ward on Friday as part of his campaign efforts in support of Eric Wekesa, an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election.
According to Malalah, unidentified individuals believed to be “state-sponsored goons” attempted to disrupt the governor’s convoy, leading to heightened political tension in the area. Witnesses reported scenes of chaos as youths hurled stones and attempted to block the governor’s procession. Police officers in the area intervened, dispersing the rowdy crowds before the situation escalated further.
In a strongly phrased statement released shortly after the incident, Malalah accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of orchestrating acts of political intimidation to maintain control in regions where its influence is waning.
“This morning, yet again, the Ruto administration sunk lower in its desperate attempt to hang onto power,” Malalah said. “The violent attack by state-sponsored goons on the convoy of Governor George Natembeya in Chwele Ward is not only archaic but also unacceptable in this dispensation where the rule of law, freedoms, and rights of every individual are protected by law.”

He called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and other investigative agencies to move with speed to identify and prosecute those involved. Malalah insisted that Kenya’s democratic space must be safeguarded and warned against normalizing politically motivated violence.
“I wish to call upon IPOA and the relevant security organs to swiftly bring to book the perpetrators of these acts,” he said. “Kenya is not a personal kiosk to be run on the whims of a clueless vendor whose quick fix is violence, deaths, and abductions.”
The DCP deputy leader also offered words of encouragement to Governor Natembeya, praising his resilience and urging him not to be intimidated by political pressure.
“To my brother Governor George Natembeya, feel encouraged. The race is not for the faint-hearted. Remain unshaken, unbowed, and unmoved,” he stated. “Together, we are going to close down Ruto’s kiosk and retire his hawkers. Aluta continua!”
Governor Natembeya has not yet issued an official statement, but members of his team confirmed the confrontation, noting that no injuries were reported. Local leaders allied to him have vowed to continue with their campaign activities despite the hostility.
The incident adds to growing concerns over heightened political temperatures in Western Kenya ahead of the Kabuchai by-election. Several political observers have warned that escalating tensions could compromise the credibility of the electoral process if authorities fail to act decisively.
Security agencies have yet to release an official report on the matter, but calls for impartial investigations continue to mount as Kenyans await clarity on what transpired in Chwele.
