Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was among the national leaders who traveled to Lumakanda in Lugari Constituency to condole with the family of the late Lugari Member of Parliament, Honorable Cyrus Jirongo.
Jirongo passed away a few days ago following a tragic road accident after his vehicle was involved in a collision with a Climax bus that was traveling from Nairobi to Busia County.
His sudden death shocked the nation and has continued to spark mixed reactions, with many Kenyans demanding a thorough investigation into the accident.
Speaking during Jirongo’s funeral service, several leaders and family members paid glowing tributes to the fallen politician, describing him as a unifier, philanthropist, and mentor who played a key role in shaping Kenya’s political landscape.
Particular attention was directed toward former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was reminded of the close relationship he shared with the late Jirongo over the years.

In emotional remarks, speakers urged Uhuru Kenyatta to honor Jirongo’s legacy by standing with his family and ensuring their welfare.
They noted that Jirongo had been instrumental in supporting Uhuru during his early days in politics and remained a trusted ally even after Uhuru rose to the highest office in the land.
According to the speakers, it would be fitting for the former Head of State to reciprocate that support by guiding and protecting Jirongo’s family.
Uhuru was also urged to carry forward Jirongo’s legacy of unity and national cohesion. Leaders recalled that the late MP was known for bringing people together across political and ethnic divides, often advocating dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
