Ford Kenya party leader and National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Masika Wetang’ula has finally taken decisive action following the party’s humiliating defeat in the Chwele/Kabuchai Ward by-election.
The loss, which saw independent candidate Eric Wekesa sweep all polling stations—including the one where Wetang’ula cast his vote—has been described as a major political setback for the party in its Bungoma stronghold.
In the aftermath of the defeat, details have now emerged showing that Ford Kenya has expelled one of its senior officials, Mr. Davis M. Burare, who was serving as the Deputy National Organizing Secretary.
According to an official letter dated 11th November 2025, the party accused Burare of gross misconduct and defection, alleging that he deliberately sabotaged the party from within.
The letter, authored and signed by Ford Kenya Secretary General Hon. Dr. John M. Chikati, states that Burare is “no longer a member” of the party after allegedly engaging in insubordination, denouncing the National Executive Council (NEC), and working “in cahoots with external forces to wreck the party from within.”

The expulsion was reportedly sanctioned by the party’s Management Committee under MIN.21/2025, citing repeated violations of the party constitution.
Ford Kenya further anchored its decision on Articles 10 and 103(1)(e) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, as well as Sections 14A and 14B of the Political Parties Act, 2011, which address party discipline and defection.
The party emphasized that the nature of Burare’s actions does not warrant any internal mechanism to challenge the decision.
“With immediate effect, desist from interfering with the affairs of Ford Kenya as a non-member,” the letter reads, adding that the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) has been formally notified to deregister him as a party member.
Political analysts view the expulsion as a clear signal that Wetang’ula is tightening his grip on Ford Kenya following the Chwele embarrassment, sending a warning to any members suspected of disloyalty as the party seeks to regroup ahead of future electoral contests.
