Winnie Odinga has found herself at the center of political debate after remarks she made during a recent rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi County.
The rally, which attracted a large crowd and trended widely online, saw Winnie openly criticize the decision by senior ODM figures, led by Oburu Odinga, to cooperate with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While addressing supporters, Winnie questioned the wisdom of working with the current government, a stance that sharply contrasted with Oburu Odinga’s position of supporting the broad-based government for the sake of national stability and development.

Her remarks immediately sparked reactions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with party loyalists accusing her of undermining party unity.
Responding strongly, political commentator and ODM ally Oketch Sella warned Winnie against what he termed as “public tantrums” directed at senior party leaders.
Sella urged her to respect Oburu Odinga’s leadership and party decisions, or alternatively consider forming her own political party if she remains uncomfortable within ODM.
He further claimed that Raila Odinga had, before his passing, encouraged allies to support the broad-based government even beyond 2027, citing President Ruto’s performance.
The unfolding standoff has intensified discussions about generational differences and ideological divisions within ODM, as Kenyans await the party’s next move amid growing political realignments.
