KISUMU, Kenya — A cloud of grief and disbelief has settled over the family of former Matungu Member of Parliament, Honorable David Aoko Were, following the brutal murder of his second son, Hanington Were, in Kisumu.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread sympathy across the country as the family grapples with a double tragedy.
Hanington was reportedly ambushed and clobbered to death by unknown assailants in cold blood while stepping out to get a meal.

Overwhelmed by grief, she lamented the cruel hand of fate that has visited their home for the second time in a matter of months.
“It is painful beyond words,” a relative stated during a media briefing, echoing the family’s profound shock. “We are broken, and we are asking for answers.”
This devastating loss comes just months after the family buried their eldest son, who was also murdered under mysterious circumstances in Nairobi. To date, police investigations into the first killing have yielded no substantive leads, leaving the family without answers or closure.
