Protesters Force KDF Officers to Wave White Flags Before Passing in Roysambu
NAIROBI, Kenya — Amidst escalating nationwide demonstrations over skyrocketing fuel prices, a dramatic standoff unfolded at the Roysambu roundabout, where angry protesters temporarily blocked a convoy of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The incident, captured in a viral video, shows a group of determined citizens confronting the military personnel, refusing to grant them passage through the barricaded highway.
The tense situation was only resolved after the KDF officers complied with the protesters’ unique demand: waving white flags to signify peace.
Once the military personnel raised the makeshift peace symbols, the hostile atmosphere shifted instantly. The barricades were cleared, and the protesters erupted into cheers, walking alongside the soldiers in a rare moment of solidarity.
“It is unacceptable that we are paying higher fuel prices than Uganda, yet their petroleum products pass right through our port in Mombasa,” lamented one resident.
Public fury has been mounting over the government’s failure to cushion citizens from the rising cost of living.
