Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has unveiled the next phase of the Linda Mwananchi initiative, signaling a renewed push to engage citizens directly following what he described as successful rallies in Kisumu and Vihiga County last week.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM after his scheduled appearance on Radio Jambo was abruptly cancelled, Sifuna emphasized that his focus is now firmly on expanding the initiative nationwide. He stated that the next step will involve traversing different regions of Kenya to gather views from citizens firsthand.
According to Sifuna, the Linda Mwananchi movement aims to bridge the gap between leaders and ordinary Kenyans by creating a platform where citizens can freely express their concerns and expectations.
He criticized what he termed as “brokers” within ODM, accusing them of hijacking the party’s agenda and failing to prioritize the voices of the people.

“I want to hear directly from Kenyans what they want. Not through intermediaries who are not interested in their welfare,” Sifuna said, adding that the initiative is meant to restore accountability and transparency within leadership structures.
However, the outspoken senator also claimed that his efforts are facing resistance from certain quarters.
He alleged that individuals uncomfortable with the direction the initiative is taking have begun targeting his engagements, pointing to the cancellation of his Radio Jambo interview as part of a broader pattern.
Despite the challenges, Sifuna maintained that he remains undeterred and committed to rolling out the program across the country. He reiterated that the success of the Kisumu and Vihiga rallies demonstrates growing public support for the initiative.
The Linda Mwananchi campaign is expected to continue in other regions in the coming weeks as Sifuna seeks to consolidate grassroots backing.
