A political rally in the Mount Kenya region turned chaotic after Ann Wamuratha was heckled and forced to cut short her speech while campaigning for President William Ruto’s re-election.
In a video that has since gone viral, the Kiambu County Woman Representative is seen addressing residents at a public function where she urged them to support Ruto’s 2027 presidential bid, citing ongoing development projects under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
However, moments into her speech, sections of the crowd began chanting “one term, one term,” drowning out her voice.
The incident underscores the growing political tension in the Mount Kenya region, a key voting bloc that overwhelmingly supported Ruto in the 2022 General Election.
Since the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in 2024, a section of leaders and residents allied to him have expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s leadership.

In the footage, Wamuratha appears determined to push through her message despite the hostile reception.
She attempts to calm the crowd and reiterates the government’s development agenda, including infrastructure and economic empowerment programs. However, the chants grow louder, making it impossible for her to proceed.
Eventually, the lawmaker is seen stepping back and abruptly ending her address as the crowd continues with the “one term” slogan — a phrase that has become increasingly common in parts of the region.
Political analysts argue that the heckling reflects deeper divisions within Mount Kenya politics, especially following Gachagua’s ouster. Some local leaders have been rallying residents to withhold support for Ruto in 2027, accusing the administration of sidelining the region.
Neither Wamuratha nor State House had issued an official statement regarding the incident by the time of publication.
However, the viral video has sparked widespread debate online, with supporters and critics of the President sharply divided over the unfolding political dynamics.
