President William Ruto has launched a sharp rebuttal against former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka following remarks made during an interview with NTV Kenya aired on December 21, 2025.
The exchange has intensified the growing political rivalry between the Kenya Kwanza administration and the United Opposition as the country edges closer to the 2027 general election.
During the interview, Kalonzo accused President Ruto of failing to stabilize the economy, arguing that the high cost of living continues to burden ordinary Kenyans.
He further alleged that corruption has become rampant under the current administration and claimed that nepotism has influenced key public appointments, weakening public trust in government institutions.
In a video response that has since circulated widely online, President Ruto dismissed Kalonzo’s claims, questioning the opposition leader’s own record in public service.

Ruto stated that despite Kalonzo having served in government for more than five decades in various capacities, including as Vice President, he has little tangible development to show Kenyans.
The President urged citizens to critically evaluate leaders based on performance rather than rhetoric.
He called on Kenyans to stop what he termed as “politics of noise” from the opposition and instead focus on development projects being rolled out by his administration, including infrastructure, agriculture reforms, and job creation initiatives.
Ruto maintained that his government remains committed to fixing the economy and addressing corruption through institutional reforms, adding that criticism should be constructive and backed by facts.
He challenged the opposition to present alternative solutions rather than what he described as constant attacks aimed at undermining government efforts.
The heated exchange has sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters from both sides defending their leaders. Analysts say such confrontations signal an early start to the 2027 political campaigns, as leaders position themselves for influence and public support across the country.
