Fresh revelations have emerged regarding the late Raila Odinga’s political strategy, with his longtime lawyer Paul Mwangi alleging that the veteran leader had crafted a calculated plan involving Edwin Sifuna before his death.
Speaking during a televised interview, Mwangi claimed that Odinga had intended to use the faction led by Sifuna within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as a strategic exit route from President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, popularly referred to as the broad-based government.
According to Mwangi, the late ODM leader, who passed away months ago while undergoing specialized treatment in India, had been closely monitoring internal party dynamics and was fully aware of Sifuna’s political positioning.
He described Odinga as “highly strategic,” suggesting that the emergence of factions within ODM was not accidental but part of a wider political design.

“These were not random developments. Raila understood the ground and had a clear plan on how to navigate the shifting political landscape,” Mwangi stated.
Following Odinga’s death, ODM has been grappling with internal divisions, splitting into rival camps, one aligned with Sifuna and another associated with Oburu Odinga.
The wrangles have intensified in recent days, culminating in Sifuna’s controversial removal as the party’s Secretary General—a move that has further deepened uncertainty within the party.
Political analysts now argue that Mwangi’s remarks could reshape public perception of the ongoing disputes, casting them as part of a broader, unfinished strategy left behind by Odinga.
Meanwhile, Kenyans remain keenly focused on Sifuna’s next move, with many speculating whether he will chart a new political path or challenge his ouster within party structures.
As the situation unfolds, ODM’s future—and the possible realization of Odinga’s alleged plan—continues to generate significant national interest.
