Homabay Town Member of Parliament Hon. Peter Kaluma has spoken out following an incident in Kasipul in which he was allegedly attacked by individuals said to be allied to independent candidate Philip Aroko.
The confrontation, which unfolded on Wednesday during the by-election activities in the constituency, left Kaluma injured and led to the reported theft of a firearm belonging to one of his bodyguards.
According to Kaluma, the situation escalated unexpectedly after he arrived at a venue where he had intended to welcome his preferred candidate, Boyd Were. He stated that upon reaching the gate, he assumed the arriving vehicle belonged to Were, only to discover moments later that it was Aroko.

Kaluma alleges that Aroko immediately instructed his supporters to confront him, leading to a chaotic scene. During the melee, a gun reportedly attached to one of Kaluma’s security officers was taken. The MP further claimed that the stolen firearm was handed directly to Aroko before he left the venue.
“What happened was unprovoked. I was only there to receive my candidate when Aroko appeared and ordered an attack on me,” Kaluma said, adding that relevant authorities had been notified about the missing firearm.
Security agencies are reported to be investigating the matter, though no official statement had been issued by the time of publication. Philip Aroko has also not publicly responded to the allegations.
The incident has heightened political tensions in Kasipul as campaigns intensify ahead of the by-election.
