National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro on Thursday found himself in a dramatic confrontation in Nyamira County, where a heated by-election was underway. According to a video seen and verified by our newsroom, Osoro and his entourage were forced to flee after a group of irate youths confronted them near a polling station.
The chaotic scenes unfolded as Osoro toured the area to monitor voting progress. Witnesses claimed that the legislator and his allies were allegedly attempting to influence voters who were already lining up to cast their ballots. The youths, who appeared agitated, began shouting at the team, prompting Osoro’s security to whisk him away hurriedly.
In the video, the mob can be seen running toward Osoro’s vehicle, forcing the driver to speed off as the situation escalated. Several youths hurled accusations, insisting that they would not allow any external interference in what they termed a decisive political moment for the community.

Nyamira County is widely considered a stronghold of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, who has in recent days been actively campaigning for the UPA party candidate. His presence in the area earlier in the week appears to have heightened political tension, with residents showing strong loyalty to the UPA ticket.
Local leaders have since condemned the incident, with calls for calm and adherence to electoral laws. Security officers in the region have assured the public that they are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further disruptions.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the confrontation, but voting continued in most polling stations despite the morning drama. As the by-election enters its final hours, all eyes remain on Nyamira to see whether the remainder of the process will proceed peacefully.
