Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Honorable Oburu Odinga has finally addressed the absence of two senior party officials—Secretary General Honorable Edwin Sifuna and Deputy Party Leader Honorable Godfrey Osotsi—from the party’s Central Committee meeting held today in Vipingo, Kilifi County.
The high-level meeting had attracted significant attention after Sifuna and Osotsi failed to appear alongside Oburu Odinga and other top ODM leaders.
The gathering is widely viewed as a pivotal step in shaping the future direction of the party as it navigates the post–Raila Odinga era. Their absence immediately sparked speculation and raised questions about possible internal divisions within the party.
However, speaking to members of the press shortly after the meeting, Oburu Odinga dismissed claims of discord and clarified the reasons behind their absence. He revealed that both leaders formally communicated their inability to attend and sent apologies in advance.

According to Oburu, Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi is currently in South Africa. He explained that Osotsi had attempted to travel back to Kenya in time for the meeting but was unable to secure suitable connecting flights.
“Honorable Osotsi is out of the country and made genuine efforts to return, but logistical challenges prevented him from attending,” Oburu stated.
On the other hand, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna is also outside the country on official commitments. Oburu noted that Sifuna’s absence was not intentional and should not be interpreted as a snub to the party leadership or the Central Committee.
Oburu emphasized that the ODM leadership remains united and focused on strengthening the party’s structures and agenda.
He assured members and supporters that the discussions held in Vipingo would be shared with all relevant organs of the party, including those who were absent.
The Vipingo meeting is expected to play a key role in redefining ODM’s strategy and leadership approach going forward. Party insiders say more consultations will follow in the coming weeks as ODM positions itself for future political engagements.
