Hostile Reception: Gachagua Watches Helplessly as New Ally GG Kagombe Is Heckled in Gatundu
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was forced to watch in dismay as his newly acquired political ally, Gatundu South MP Gabriel “GG” Kagombe, was severely heckled by an agitated crowd, cutting his speech short.
The drama unfolded shortly after Gachagua and his entourage concluded a local church service in Gatundu.
Attempting to capitalize on recent political realignments, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader stopped to address gathering residents and invited Kagombe to speak to the crowd.
Kagombe had formally dumped President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) just days prior, citing unfulfilled campaign promises and broken infrastructure commitments.

Seeking to solidify his allegiance to Gachagua’s camp, the MP attempted to hand-shake his way back into local favor.
However, the political gamble backfired instantly. Video footage circulating widely across social media shows an angry crowd bursting into hostile chants the moment Kagombe grabbed the microphone.
Disgruntled residents shouted him down, gesturing aggressively and demanding that he immediately hand back the microphone and step away.
Despite Gachagua’s attempts to calm the crowd and restore order, the agitated residents refused to hear out the area MP. Flanked by his entourage, a visibly helpless Gachagua could only observe the chaos as the hostile reception effectively silenced Kagombe.
Gachagua later advised Kagombe to seek forgiveness directly from his aggrieved constituents rather than expecting an effortless political clean slate.
The dramatic showdown highlights the volatile political atmosphere currently sweeping Mount Kenya. While several lawmakers are abandoning the ruling party in a bid to realign ahead of upcoming elections, the scene in Gatundu serves as a stark reminder that switching party allegiance does not guarantee instant forgiveness from an increasingly demanding electorate.
